BIOGRAPHI, ENGLISH

Eilert Tøsse (1954) has been activ as a composer since the beginning of the1980s. He has his musical education from The Bergen Conservatory of Music (Organist Exam Higher Degree, later One-year course in composition / arranging), and private composition studies with Ruth Bakke, Kjell Samkopf and Nils Henrik Asheim. Besides being activ as a composer, he also since 1983 worked as organist in 50% job in Samnanger community. From august 2019 he is working as a full time composer.

His works include compositions for large og smaller instrumental combinations for brass and wind instruments, (brassband / windband), strings (e.g. string quartet), symphony orchestra, choir (mixed choir, male choir, female choir, children’s choir, a capella and with instruments), organ, piano, accordeon, percussion, guitar, electro-acoustic music (based on live or electronic sound material, sound installations), ballet music, theatre music, pedagogical composition projects for children.


The basis of composition ideas are different for each work. In the vocal works are the text important for choice of tone language and other technics. In the sacred works are the preaching aspect in focus, with the experience of the church room as an important element. The sound installations often have their source in sound material at the certain place and sometimes in combination with acoustic works. Other characteristics in his music: Elements that either elvolves or contrast each other, focusing sound details and musical dramaturgy. 


Eilert Tøsse has been represented with works at festivals as Autunnale, Avgarde, Borealis, Brass-Wind, Kirkemusikkdagene i Bergen, Oslo Internasjonale Kirkemusikkfestival, Music Factory, Ultima a.o.
